On the tip of north eastern Africa, close enough to Europe to see it, Morocco is a very different place to both. From the greenery of the Rif mountains in the north to the deserts in the south and east, the scenery is spectacular and the culture and architecture fascinating.
It's easily reached from Europe, with multiple ferries from the north to Spain and cheap flights from Spain on Ryanair and EasyJet from the UK.
Budget wise, AU$45 a day each for the two of us (AU$90 total) allowed us to do pretty much whatever we wanted, buy a few gifts, eat well and stay in pleasant places without having to work hard. A focus on cheaper hotels, dorms where available and cheaper food would easily trim this down another AU$10 each a day.
